Fender Intros New Guitar: Kenny Wayne Shepherd Strat PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 02 September 2008 19:50
For nearly twenty years Fender and modern blues sensation Kenny Wayne Shepherd have shared a stage and they are now officially announcing the September 2008 release of his new signature model, the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster® guitar.

A sleekly elegant addition to Fender’s stable of artist Strat models, the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster is based on Shepherd’s own ’61 instrument (which will soon be on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum) and welds vintage style to modern features. Most distinctively, Shepherd’s new signature model boasts a blueswailing voice of its own thanks to its three custom-voiced Kenny Wayne Shepherd pickups.

Other features include an alder-body, maple neck with 12”-radius rosewood fingerboard and 21 jumbo frets, vintage-style synchronized tremolo bridge with Graph Tech® saddles and Fender vintage-style tuning machines. The guitar comes in three polyester finishes—a Black model with a three-ply black-white-black pickguard and racing stripe body graphic, and Three-color Sunburst and Arctic White models that each have a three-ply mint green pickguard (with cross graphic on the Arctic White model).

“It’s an honor to be a part of the Signature Series guitar line. My goal throughout the design process was to combine top notch quality with unique appearances and road proven components at an affordable price. These guitars will help a new generation of guitarists develop their own signature sound the way Fender has helped me to develop mine.
Seymour Duncan Releases the Power Grid Stompbox PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 28 August 2008 03:00
As a guitarist, when you need power, it's generally because you want to lay down chunky rhythms or you need to bust out a blazing solo. Enter the Power Grid, Seymour Duncan's newest stompbox, which is designed to provide thick, searing distortion; powerful overdrive; sweet overtones; and distortion suitable for rhythm and lead playing, thanks to five stages of class A discrete circuitry, which are cascaded to provide nearly 100dB of gain.

The Power Grid is managed by a multi-element gain and volume control system that allows fine control. For example, if you crank the gain, you'll get a very thick, saturated "Modded British" distortion, reminiscent of the big guitar sounds that defined metal. But if you back the gain off, you'll get a very responsive "crunch" distortion similar to the Rhythm Channel on the SFX-03 Twin Tube Classic. And in between there are myriad levels of overdrive and distortion.

Major Theft Hits Orange Amplifiers PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 19 August 2008 02:03
One of the world’s most famous British amplifier brands, Orange Amps, has just announced a major theft of a container load of amplifiers from its Borehamwood premises. Used by some of the biggest stars such as Madonna, Led Zeppelin Prince and Kaiser Chiefs, the robbers targeted this prestigious brand to carry out a daring raid on Saturday 16th August.

The one hundred forty one Orange Tiny Terror Combo guitar amps, which have a combined value of over $120,000, were part of the first shipment of the much anticipated amps into the UK. The product was launched at the Frankfurt music exhibition earlier this year, on the back of the award winning acclaimed Tiny Terror amp which has sold over 30,000 units and proven to be one of the most in-demand amps in the world.

The combination amp and speaker has a value of $850 each and was stolen from a temperature controlled, sealed forty foot container. The robbers couldn’t break the locks so they attempted to use an acetylene welder and then angle grinders to cut through the quarter inch locking steel plates.

Guitarist Alex Masi Offers Music Man Clinics PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 12 August 2008 23:22

demo2.jpgIn the wake of his successful Spring 2008 tour of Italy, Grammy-nominated guitarist Alex Masi is planning to go back on tour in late Fall 2008. A few stops on his multiple-city European tour will include appearances and guitar clinics for Ernie Ball / Music Man, who recently inked an endorsement agreement with Masi. Los Angeles tour dates are in the works and will be announced in September 2008.

Masi and Ernie Ball / Music Man have been working together for about a year, ever since he discovered the Music Man Silhouette. "The first thing that seriously caught my attention when I got the Silhouette guitar was that unique ‘snapping' quality that every note seems to have when played on this instrument," said Masi. "It gives it an almost 3-D effect that makes it a pleasure to record with because there's very little need for EQing in order to make it stand out in the mix. Then there's the playability factor - it's built for speed and comfort... a very addictive guitar." Of course, it helps that he keeps it strung with Extra Slinky Ernie Ball strings.
